DEI Call For Proposals (Webpage Banner)

Are you passionate about fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the field of ceramics and glass? The American Ceramic Society invites you to submit proposals for innovative and engaging topics for our upcoming online course aimed at enhancing DEI within our community.

We are seeking 4–5 dynamic individuals to develop a comprehensive 2–3-hour virtual course; individual proposed talks should range from 20–40 mins. Proposals should offer insightful perspectives, practical strategies, and actionable steps to promote DEI in various facets of the ceramics and glass community. Examples of potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  1. Creating inclusive spaces: Strategies for making research labs, workshops, and classrooms more inclusive and welcoming for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  2. Promoting diversity in recognition: Exploring the importance of diversity in award selection processes and strategies for ensuring equitable representation among award winners.
  3. Crafting effective diversity statements: Guidance on writing impactful diversity statements for academic institutions, research groups, and small businesses to demonstrate commitment to DEI values.
  4. Addressing implicit bias: Techniques for recognizing and mitigating implicit bias in academic and professional settings to foster a more inclusive environment.
  5. Intersectionality in ceramics: Examining the intersectionality of identities within the ceramics and glass community and strategies for addressing the unique challenges faced by individuals with intersecting marginalized identities.

Since this course is about DEI in The American Ceramic Society, proposals will only be considered from current ACerS members.

Join us in advancing DEI within The American Ceramic Society and shaping a more inclusive future for our community. Submit your proposal today and be a catalyst for positive change!

Proposals are due by April 15, 2024. Selected contributors will receive a complimentary registration to the ACerS conference of their choice, valid for one year.
