UNITECR Student-Young Professionals Funding Program

Students & Young Professionals Attending the Unified International Technical Conference on Refractories (UNITECR) 2021 [2022]

The North American Members (NAM) of the UNITECR International Executive Board have partnered with the Refractory Ceramics Division (RCD) of the American Ceramic Society (ACerS) and established a joint student-young professionals funding program for attendance and participation in the Unified International Technical Conference on Refractories (UNITECR) to be held March 15-18, 2022 in Chicago, Illinois, USA.

The NAM will award approximately ten to twenty scholarships based on the applicant’s demonstrated experience or interest in the field of refractories.  Funding levels will be based on whether the individual is an attendee versus a presenter of an accepted technical paper.

Application requirements

Scholarships are available to college undergraduate or graduate students who will be enrolled full time in the 2021-22 academic year in pursuit of a degree in ceramic engineering, materials engineering, metallurgical engineering, mechanical engineering or similarly related discipline such as to have a serious curiosity in refractories.  Additionally, Young Professionals that are active in the refractory field and less than 10 years removed from the last academic degree are also encouraged to apply.

Schedule 

Complete applications must be received by the NAM by December 17, 2021.  The NAM will then review the applications and successful applicants will be notified by January 30, 2022.  Funding will be awarded upon submission of appropriate original expense receipts for the conference.  The expenses submitted may include:

1. Air fare at the economy rate, or mileage reimbursement based on government approved rates
2. Ground transportation to/from the airport
3. Hotel room at the conference reduced rate
4. Food at the government approved per diem rates for meals not included at conference/hotel
5. Conference fees
