Emily Aaldenberg is a Ph.D. candidate in Materials Science and Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Working with her advisor, Professor Tomozawa, her research has expanded our understanding of how water interacts with glass to promote fast stress relaxation. This was accomplished through exploring details of the kinetics of water-assisted stress relaxation behavior in bending and in shear, experimental demonstration of composition fluctuations in the silica-water system, and mechanics modeling.
Aaldenberg has been awarded numerous academic awards including the Alfred R. Cooper Scholars Award in 2015, the Rensselaer Graduate Fellowship (2015), and a Graduate Fellowship from Corning Incorporated (2016-2019).
