Columbus, Ohio is home to many things, including, as of February, myself.
Come November, however, it also will be home to the 75th Conference on Glass Problems (GPC).
Organized by the Glass Manufacturing Industry Council (GMIC) and Alfred University and endorsed by The American Ceramic Society, the GPC—the largest glass manufacturing conference in North America—will bring together the global glass manufacturing and supplier communities in Ohio’s capital city at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, November 3-6.
The technical program for 2014 includes more than 35 hours of education, including expert lectures, panel discussions, and full-day symposia on hot sensors and energy productivity (here and here), as well as focused short courses on topics ranging from glass melting, refractories and process control, to emissions and raw materials. (A detailed program is available here.)
As with any conference worth its weight, the 75th GPC will also feature time for networking. Whether it’s in the exhibition hall during the daytime or in the hospitality booths and salons in the evenings, you’ll have ample opportunity to connect with industry’s top solutions providers and manufacturers.
“This is a conference organized by the glass manufacturing industry for the industry,” says GMIC Executive Director Robert Weisenburger Lipetz. “The Conference on Glass Problems has become a respected institution as the glass industry’s primary forum for the exchange of ideas. High-value technical content in the lecture halls, along with short courses and full day symposia, provide difficult-to-obtain practical information. Just as important are the discussions between manufacturers and suppliers in the exhibit spaces. Often, significant value is found in these impromptu meetings of the industry’s players.”
Early bird registration (and savings!) is available until October 3 (hotel information here)—and students can apply for one of 20 $500 travel scholarships until September 30.
If a rhyme helps sway you (as sometimes it does me) to visit our fair city, let me bestow upon you, my friend, this corny little ditty. Now repeat after me: “I’ll remember, come November, that GPC is the place to be.”
See you in November!
