John Vienna Bio
John Vienna is a materials scientist with over 25 years of experience in nuclear waste form development, processing, and testing.
His experiences include serving as the national technical advisor to the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Offices of Environmental Management and Nuclear Energy on waste form and immobilization science. John is a Chief Scientist in the Materials Science Team of PNNL’s Nuclear Sciences Division. He also serves as the Glass Dissolution Lead for the Center for Performance and Design of Nuclear Waste Forms and Containers, a DOE Office of Science supported Energy Frontier Research Center.
Vienna’s research has led to more than 290 technical publications (including journal articles, books, book chapters, proceedings articles, and technical reports). He is an adjunct faculty member in the Chemistry Department at Washington State University where he teaches graduate courses in nuclear waste glass chemistry from 1999 to present.
